Creating Community Crash Course

$30.00

When: Feb 21, 2022 07:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

Join Jamie Buckland for a one-hour workshop as she takes the ambiguity and confusion of organizing and operating a homeschool co-op, learning pod, or micro school and breaks it down into the next right step.

For almost a decade, Jamie has been starting and sustaining programs like the ones mentioned above. She’s found that the day-to-day operations can each be slotted into three buckets: business, administration, and curriculum.

In this workshop Jamie will answer these questions:

Business – What are the options for the organizing? What are the options for staffing? How do you come up with a budget? How do you assess your liability?

Administration – How do you communicate with families? How do you manage registration or applications? Do you need a handbook? Do you need an orientation? How do you manage conflict? How do you train tutors?

Curriculum – Will the program supplement the parent’s chosen course of study at home? Will the program provide the family with a course of study essential to the student’s academic requirements for the year? What pedagogy will you embrace? How will you identify a tutor’s skill set to ensure they can meet expectations for the class? Will you offer skill-based courses like math, upper level science, foreign language? Or will you focus on content courses like history, poetry, literature, composer study, or picture study?

Attendees will receive a handout to follow along with the course as well as some editable templates to use as they’re getting started.
